I am looking at getting into portraits and so I want to be able to snap face shots and full body shots in pretty confined spaces, I wondered how this would measure up being such a long 35mm equivalent? aperture is great for indoor portraits where light may be at a minimum or where you have moving subjects that are hard to freeze in your frame.

I was using F8 for this shot and still did not get enough depth of field to see the whole fruit in focus. Zuiko lenses are compatible with the entire range of Olympus PEN and OM-D cameras as well as other MFT cameras.

I expected the 40mm full-frame equivalent lens to be my go-to choice for the more artistic kind of photos my sister was looking for. lens is a beautiful high-quality medium length telephoto lens designed for use with Micro Four Thirds (MFT) System cameras. The Sigma will be slightly be more flexible for indoor use, but I personally find it to still be a bit too long. I know the OM-D is not a sports/action camera, but to have difficulty focusing on a slowly moving subject is quite surprising! I never said anything about colors, contrast, skin tones or DOF, so don’t know why you bring that into the discussion.

As an owner of both the D700 and the OM-D, I can assure you that the former does NOT “destroy” the OM-D in high ISO performance. I shoot mostly “full-frame” film, and I have learned from experience that shooting portraits wide open can easily ruin your shots because of the extreme shallow depth of field. I am so used to shooting Leica and wider primes such as 28, 35 and 50 than a 150mm lens seemed a bit long for what I shoot but I just had a feeling that this lens would be special so I plopped it on my OM-D and left it there for weeks. If you want test charts – DXOMark tested this lens as the best performing m43 lens in their database.

Advantage of using a long lens, you can shoot a subject from far away, yet having the subject reasonably close in your frame. Though I don’t shoot Action/Sports, but rather more “static” subjects like landscapes, architecture, macro, and products (Please see totalqualityphoto. If you shoot a lot of portraits, and you really want to produce the best portrait shots ever, this lens should be in consideration. Panasonic’s IBIS isn’t as good as Olympus yet, but its recent bodies, like the Panasonic G9 have shown marked improvement and are about 90% as good as Olympus right now. Clearly more present is the very beauty of the front element — the way it refracts light makes even the highest quality Pro lenses look like toys.

For all this lens’ incredible technology and specifications, this manual focus ring could use some work. The Olympus 75mm lens provides an equivalent telephoto of 150mm on a 2x crop MFT sensor and is great for head and shoulders portrait photography. the more I realized I could use it in a professional setting –whether it be senior portrait sessions or engagement sessions. Micro 4/3 lenses, as a rule of thumb, can have their focal length multiple by a factor of 2 to be brought in line with the generally accepted full-frame focal length. It’s not a typical twist on hood though, you push it in and then you use a little screw to tighten or release the hood. Overall, despite this being one of the older m43 lenses, I have no complaints with AF speed and accuracy.

I’ve had to look myself in the mirror and ask myself if I’ll actually use this lens if I pick up the 40-150mm zoom. The lens looks amazing and I’d love to get it, but can’t help feeling it may not be the best value for money because of its 75mm focal length vs. Longitudinal chromatic aberration, also known as 'bokeh fringing' is a bit easier to spot, especially in photos taken at maximum aperture, but only if you are actively looking for it. The Olympus 61F Lens Hood is an all-metal, screw-in type that will definitely protect the front glass and minimize flare.
