About this deal

Although this lens isn't supplied with a hood, it is quite resistant to flare and loss of contrast in contra-lit situations. In extreme circumstances strong sources of light just outside of the frame might cause a little flare, and shooting into very strong light sources may result in a slight loss on contrast.

Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 review | Cameralabs

This doesn't proof anything conclusively, but now I know that I should carefully research the matter before I buy... I also recommend the use of a tripod in situations where you need to work with slow shutter speeds. Even though the 5-axis stabilisation works well, there might always be a couple of pictures that come out slightly blurry. Moreover, the effectiveness of the stabilisation is related to how well positioned and stable the photographer is. Most wildlife shooters use tripods for a reason, so I recommend that you do the same, especially with the MC-14, if you plan to do a lot of animal shooting.

Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 Pro design and build quality

IMO the 40-150mm cropped would still have a better quality image then the 75-300mm at full focal length. The 75-300 can deliver some good images, I had some good success with it at the long end particularly using the electronic shutter and good long lens technique. This first image above was taken with the 40-150mm f2.8 at its maximum telephoto focal length and with the aperture wide open at f2.8. The shooting mode was set to continuous low with the auto focus set to continuous. I selected the central AF point and tried to keep the rider in the red and blue silks in the center of the frame. This is the eighth frame of a ten-frame sequence, exactly half of which (the first frame and the final four) were sharp on the subject in the AF frame. If you want even more fair comparisons, look at the cigarette stump on the ground just right from the mans head. Even when it is just partially out of focus with 40-150mm, you can see how 75-300mm will clearly render far more details in the grass blades and the stump itself! Doing a common 8x10" prints and it renders lenses like 300mm f/4 moot by sharpness compared to 75-300mm @ 300mm as you are wasting resolution benefit in small print.

Speaking of manual focus, it works in a focus-by-wire fashion. This should not put you off using it as it feels pretty natural in use, and actually enables the camera to display a magnified view of the subject automatically, i.e. without your having to press a dedicated button or enter the menu. The focus ring is slim but is adequate for the job. If their customer audience is 80% of people that are doing 98% of the time prints size of 16x11" and 2% just little bigger and otherwise photos are on Full HD or HD displays, that is the starting point where the comparison will be made as it is the output that rules everything. For those who are excited by technical specifications, it has 15 elements in 9 groups (2 ED lenses, 1 super ED lens, 1 HR lens, 2 aspherical lenses). The front element is coated with a new water-repellent fluorine coating that makes it much easier to remove moisture and water droplets from the lens. As I shoot on the shoreline a lot, that is a blessing. For the last few years, I’ve been using my old Olympus 50-200 mm f/2.8-3.5 SWD Four Thirds lens for telephoto shots. I’ve always been pleased with its results. However, that old lens is big and heavy. This new OM System lens weighs in at a mere 0.841 lbs (381.4 grams). The new OM-1 and this lens together weigh less than the old lens with its MFT-3 adaptor attached. The new 40-150mm lens is certainly far smaller than any other lens of this focal range, and that makes it easier to use. Remember, this has the equivalent field of view of an 80-300 mm lens on a 35 mm camera. The replacement guide contains information on like for like replacement models and can be found under Documentation and Tools. How to install and set up ecocirc XL If any of this sounds important to you, the Olympus 40-150mm F2.8 Pro is one of my all-time favorite lenses and an easy recommendation. Read Olympus 40-150mm F2.8 Pro Review for more information. I’ll admit that I had trouble finding something wrong with the performance of this lens. I could easily keep this chapter very short and tell you that the M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro produces stunning images with great sharpness (even at its fastest aperture), bokeh, micro contrast and colour rendition. It isn’t a premium lens primarily because of its build or its price, but because of the quality it can deliver. E-M1, 1/400, f/ 5.6, ISO 200 – 190mm – MC-14 So it mainly comes to only a technical argumentary and choice making, that makes it personal justification to boost the ego "I have the better one" and "I made the good choice" than for actual use and results making.
