About this deal

On the nose: Tropical fruits in the first half. Earthy in the second half. Initially, this is similar to the 12-year-old. There are medium intense aromas of pineapple, dried apricot, sapodilla, and starfruit. After these come light aromas of Fuji apples, honey and coconut sugar syrup. The intensity turns up a bit. It allows me to smell honeydew, orange jam and orange peel. Subtle aromas of French oak characteristics come out. An assortment of mushrooms like dried shiitake and grounded chaga comes to mind. Up to him introducing me to a sample of Nadurra, all of my experiences with Glenlivet had been fairly unexceptional. Balanced, rich and elegant, this is a whisky for special occasions. Over the course of 18 years our Master Distiller, Alan Winchester, takes this expression through a combination of cask types, including both first and second-fill American oak (for tropical fruitiness) and ex-sherry oak (for spicy complexity). The result of this deft navigation of the distilling arts is a gorgeous single malt that is complex, yet elegant and balanced.

By using the Service, and by creating an account you represent, warrant and confirm that you are of legal age.In the mouth: A tropical fruit salad with an intermission of French oak in the middle. Like on the nose, it’s initially tropical fruits. I get light and slightly lasting tastes of cantaloupe, pineapples, sapodilla, starfruit, Fuji apples, honey and dried apricots. There’s a sneaking, rising heat here too as I chew it. The French oak manifests in the form of mushrooms. Similar to the nose, I get subtle and brief tastes of dried shiitake mushrooms, chaga powder and leather. At the end are a subtle mix of more tropical fruit notes with something bitter. The bitterness makes me think of biting into a fresh coconut husk, as well as honeydew and different shades of orange. Conclusions: The Glenlivet distillery takes its water from Josie’s Well As Well as other nearby springs. The malt is supplied by Crisp Maltings of Portgordon. Part of the Glenlivet distillery process is chill filtering, which, in taste tests, has been adjudged to impart a fuller, rounder, and richer flavour. Whisky Details On the other hand Glenlivet 12 year old offers a lighter style than Glenmorangie 10, with distinct notes of citrus, honeycomb, sweet almond and subtle hints of smoke on the palate. Although Glenlivet 12 is slightly cheaper than Glenmorangie 10, it cannot compete with the latter in terms of complexity and richness. Glenmorangie and Glenlivet are two of the most iconic whisky producers in the world, with a long history of producing high-quality spirits. Both distilleries have become synonymous with quality, craftsmanship and innovation over the years. George Smith is born in 1792 a small hillside farm in the parish of Glenlivet. He came from a long line of illicit distillers. As a young man his perseverance and determination were clear to see. However, as he stepped up to support his family. He was working as a joiner, building barns, mending fences and doing odd jobs on neighbouring farms.

Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. We shall first try to settle any dispute over a dram of whisky. Disputes that cannot be settled over multiple drams of whisky shall be solely submitted to the court of Amsterdam, The Netherlands unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise. For about twice the price, you can buy something considerably more mature and complex. It's a deeper, darker 'livet, but still not too heavy. Glenfiddich 18 was aged for eighteen years in vintage oak casks from Jerez de la Frontera in Spain. In addition to the sherry and mellow wood flavours that come from these casks, Glenfiddich 18 offers subtle hints of dried fruits like apricot and figs for added complexity and depth. On the palate, Glenfiddich 18 has a soft mouthfeel with floral notes, biscuit rye flavours as well as dried fruit such as figs, prunes and dates. On the other hand, Glenlivet 12 has a wonderfully fragrant nose of apricot, pineapple, greengages and citrus blossom. This whisky is then aged for 12 years in European and American oak barrels which impart it with rich oaky flavours and its velvety texture. On the palate Glenlivet 12 delivers a complex blend of juicy fruit notes with hints of vanilla intertwined throughout. Its finish is an intriguing mix of toasty oak, malt, and sweet-tart red apple that tantalise the senses. Glenlivet 12 is also bottled at 80 proof / 40%ABV for a balanced yet powerful flavour profile. Despite being slightly higher ABV than the other two it is still incredibly light but it is on a good way and it’s also very warming and soothing at the same time. This is different from what I remember; I recall tasting more green apples and pears in the 12. Is this really the same whisky as the ones in the green bottle? Or have my senses just changed? Is it both? It’s been a few years since I last tried this whisky after all. Glenlivet 18 year old whisky has been aged in a combination of American ex-bourbon cask and European ex-sherry cask made from American and European oak which impart additional complexity to the whisky. A smaller amount of Glenlivet is also placed in American-made ex-Sherry casks for extra flavour before being finished in new French Limousine oak from Dordogne for its final maturation stage. This careful aging process ensures that Glenlivet 18 year old whisky has achieved its perfect balance after spending at least 18 years in oak barrels before it is bottled and shipped to its final destination.

Glenlivet 18 Year Old - Whisky from The Whisky World UK

It has a lovely little nose of fruit, apples and pears, cinnamon, toffee, honey, vanilla, oak, little floral and a very slight cocoa aroma that appears and disappears. I was expecting this one to be decent, but I expected it to be completely eclipsed by the HP 18 year old. Don't get me wrong, I prefer the HP 18, but the HP 18 didn't quite reach my expectations whereas this one exceeded them, and it's more than capable of playing in the same sandbox. I tossed up between 8.5 and 9, I've decided on 8.5, but it was a close one. Glenlivet is matured in a combination of first-fill and second-fill American oak casks as well as ex-sherry casks Oloroso sherry casks are also used to mature the Glenfiddich 18. If you’re already a fan of sherry-finished whiskies, you’ll appreciate the spiced fruity character from these Spanish staves. During ageing, the whisky develops nutty, fruity notes and a notably reddish colour. This is good whisky, but I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s better than the 12 or the 15. The dominant European oak/ex-oloroso sherry cask influence just makes it that much more different from the 12 and 15.

We mash the grist with hot spring water in a ‘mash tun’, a machine with rotating arms that stirs the mixture. The modern ones we use here on Speyside have been designed to obtain the maximum possible sugar and starch from the grist. The charming story of Glenlivet begins in Livet Valley, where the founder of the brand, George Smith, learned about whiskey making. Secreted in this hard-to-find valley, Smith learned how to distill the whiskey that was to become World famous. The tale continues with King George IV arriving in Scotland in August 1822 when he is reputed to have asked to try an illegal (as it was then) dram of Glenlivet single malt whiskey. If we decide not to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms, such decision shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. Apples, pears, hint of oak, honey, again a little floral, vanilla, caramel. But it's balanced very nicely.

Glenfiddich 18 is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Glenfiddich Distillery, located in Dufftown, Scotland. It has a rich and intense nose of sherry, raisins and vanilla with a hint of butterscotch, as well as a sweet malty taste including honey, chocolate and spice. The finish is long-lasting and smooth, with oak notes providing an undercurrent to the other flavours. I highly recommend Glenmorangie’s 18 year old expression for whisky connoisseurs who are looking for something special. This expression makes for an indulgent experience that will not soon be forgotten! The Glenmorangie 18 offers a complex, robust flavour profile that can be described as both tart and sweet. On the nose, Glenmorangie reveals citrusy and tart tones, complemented by the sweetness of cinnamon, stewed fruits, and caramel-topped pannacotta. On the palate, Glenmorangie offers aromas of juicy nectarines drenched in yoghurt, succulent peaches bathed in cream and a hint of butterscotch for an indulgent tropical experience. This whisky has then been finished off with a round and silky mouthfeel before finishing with notes of tart oak and toasted grapefruit radiating with a glistening layer of caramelized brown sugar.
