About this deal

That's not all though; a series of other helpful systems ensure you get the best audio possible. Auto Level Mode will set your gain and compression in real-time. This means that your output levels will remain balanced while you work. Gone are the time-consuming tweaks and alterations! This is augmented further by automatic adjustment of your audio levels - making sure that your voice and its volume stays the same without fluctuations. Custom Audio The SM7B, on the other hand, has significantly more low-end, which is where that signature broadcast sound comes from. It also has very wide and flat response, which is incredibly difficult to achieve in a dynamic microphone. There’s a good reason the SM7B has been called an SM57 on steroids…

Your microphone and computer have a sample rate mismatch. To adjust your computer sample rate settings, go to the Shure FAQ topic for information on correcting sample rate mismatch. EQ Use the equalizer to add a high-pass filter, presence or both. Tap Flat to return to an unchanged equalization state.

What’s the difference between the Shure MV7 and Shure SM7B?

Audio distortion usually comes from overloading the microphone which causes clipping. Lower your mic gain for the best sound recording. You can even use a lightning cable (bought separately) to use the mic with an iPad or iPhone - allowing for some high-quality content creation while you're on-the-move! Additional Uses

The MV7 takes advantage of the ShurePlus Motiv software, which lets you tweak and fine-tune your sound with relative ease. From here, you can mess with things like adding compression to your voice, adjust your EQ, and add a limiter. One of the more understated features is the Auto Level Mode. We've seen similar features in other mics, such as the Elgato Wave 3, which basically keeps you from hitting the red. That's especially useful if your content involves lots of shouting or singing or both. So now you don't have to worry about bursting your viewers' eardrums when a jump scare gets the better of you in Phasmophobia. Also, nice if you're a bit of an audio novice, and your recording area isn't acoustic-friendly.Winner: The MV7 takes the lead here because its additional modern features make it a joy to use. Shure MV7 vs SM7B: verdict First the similarities. Both the SM7B and MV7 are low sensitivity, cardioid dynamic microphones with relatively flat frequency responses and high dynamic ranges. Neither can compete with even an average condenser microphone in terms of frequency range, which means they struggle at the high and low ends.

In seemingly a first for an online review of the Shure mics MV7, we’ve made it past the first paragraph without mentioning its most obvious reference point. The Shure SM7B is a natural place to offer comparison; both are from one of the world’s most respected mic brand and both deliver exceptional speech performance. The key difference, however, lies in the lower-cost MV7’s ability to work directly with your computer without need for a separate mixer or audio interface. How important exactly is this? Let’s take a look in more detail in this Shure MV7 review. What impressed us about the Shure MV7 was the fact it aims to do two things, and it achieves them both successfully. For less tech-savvy users, the MOTIV app and ease-of-use you get from the USB connection is ideal. It works in exactly the way you’d want it to, and is as simple as it gets thanks to helpful tools like the auto-level mode and voice isolation technology. Put simply, if you’ve got a voice it’ll sound great through the MV7.It may be useful to reset the app to restore functionality. Perform a hard reset by unplugging and re-plugging the microphone. So why would someone opt instead for a shiny, new MV7? Well, there are plenty of reasons, actually, and we’ll try to make that as clear as possible right here. But we’d stress that these microphones really complement rather than compete against each other. For example, someone might use an MV7 for streaming from home and a trusty SM7B for studio recording. Or maybe your podcasting rig is already running an SM7B and you’ll want the MV7 for remote guests and recording on the road. This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: So even if you do decide to eventually upgrade your setup with an SM7B and proper interface, there’s no real downside to fear: You’ll already have a terrific second mic handy for podcast guests, streaming fun or expanded recording sessions. Making connections with XLR. The Shure MV7 is a dream for beginners, or anyone who needs a mic but doesn’t necessarily need to know how it works.

Limiter and Compressor settings Fine tune your audio with limiter and compressor controls. See "Advanced Mic Settings" for more information. Unfortunately, most consumer grade audio interfaces and mixers only provide about 40dB of gain, which means you'll have to invest in a Cloudlifter or preamp to provide you with enough additional boost. It takes just minutes to get au fait with the SM7B's feature set, perhaps less. You'll find two windshields in the box, a standard tapered design for most voice and instrument applications and a slightly more bulbous A7WS version for broadcast. Shure claims that the A7WS offers more protection from plosive breath noise but in our experience we rarely see anyone use it. More commonly, artists will remove the windshield completely to improve the SM7B's top-end response. Of course, if you're studio based and have the funds then the SM7B is well worth the outlay. In fact, compared to a decent condenser mic we believe it offers astonishing value for money. What's more, if you're recording in an untreated home studio then it makes even more sense. No other mic provides you with the winning combination of broad frequency response, high SPL tolerance, warm tone and, most importantly, superb ambient noise rejection.
